FAQ
What
is Powerline Technology?
Powerline
technology is a technology of data
transfer through power outlets, i.e.
through electricity. The same wires that are
able to transmit electricity are also able to
transmit data.
Is Powerline Network
Secure?
Poweline
uses a 168-bit 3DES encryption, which makes sure
that your network and your data are highly
secure and are not intercepted by unwanted
intruders.
How
can I benefit from Powerline technology?
If you have more than one
computer at your home or office, using the
Powerline technology you can create your own
network to share internet, data or video without
pulling new wires.
How can I transmit HD/SD
video signal with Powerline adapters?
Simply connect the devices
you want networked to your Powerline adapters
with the included Ethernet cable, plug them in,
and they're communicating. Now all that's left
to do is set your devices to send or receive,
according to the instructions provided by the
manufacturers of those devices. For example to
send video form a Media Center to a television,
connect the PC to a Powerline adapter with the
included Ethernet cable and plug it in. Connect
another adapter to the Ethernet port on your set
top box or other device connected to your TV.
Now use the software included on your Media
Center PC to send your video stream, and set
your set top box and television to receive the
signal. For digital video recorders such as TiVo,
do the same as above but set one TiVo to send
and set the others to receive. AV200 Powerline
Adapters automatically establish communications
between devices with an Ethernet port. For
detailed instructions on sending and receiving
video or other data, please consult the manuals
included with the devices you are using.
Can I Combine Wireless Device with
Powerline Device?
Yes, you can. You can have
a wireless device sending signal to your
computer and have your computer connected to the
network of other computers through a Powerline
adapter.
Can
not I plug my AV200 Powerline Adapter
into a power strip?
Not
recommended - Power strips contain surge
protectors which often severely restrict the
frequencies used by Powerline communications and
thus, the performance of AV200 Powerline
adapters

workmanship.
Is
it safe to put a network on my electrical wires?
Will it overload my circuits?
All
AV200 products undergo rigorous testing for FCC
certification in the United States and by the
responsible bodies in all other countries where
our products are sold. AV200 Powerline networks
simply utilize unused frequencies on your
electric lines -There will not be any additional
load on your wires.
How
secure is my network? Can my neighbors see my
data?
AV200
products are pre-set at the factory with today's
leading security features already turned on.
Your nosy neighbors will have better luck
listening at the wall with a glass to their ear.

AV200 products compatible with Mac OS X? Linux?
Yes.
AV200 products are fully compatible with any
computer or device with an Ethernet port
Do
AV200 products support HD video?
Yes.
In fact, AV200 products are perfect for HD video
transmission. It's not just the high-speed
breakthrough, providing plenty of bandwidth for
your HD signal. We built in Quality of Service
settings, which give priority to your video

network. So your pictures stay crisp and clear,
no matter what - just as you'd expect from TV
Can
I use my AV200 products in a commercial or
business environment?
Yes,
you certainly can. Depending upon the needs of
your business, you can choose either the In-home
or the Enterprise version of the products.
Can
I send my TV signals over Powerline or Coax?
If
you have satellite, digital cable or any other
digital television service, you can add it to
your network by connecting your set up box to a
AV200 adapter with the included Ethernet cable,
and then plug it in. The only requirement is an
Ethernet port. AV200 Powerline Adapters
automatically establish communications between
any devices with an Ethernet port. For detailed
instructions on sending and receiving video or
other data, please consult manuals included with
the devices you are using.
How
can you tell status of device looking at the
lights?
Please
refer to user manual of your particular device.
It describes in detail the implication of the
lights.
How
do I configure the devices?
You
can login to the device using any web browser.
Follow the user manual on directions to login
and to configure the adapters.
How
can I update firmware on AV200 products?
AV200 is working on
providing access to firmware files to all users.
Currently, it is only available to selected
commercial clients.
Why
can I not access the device web interface?
The web interface is only
supported by the home version of AV200 products.
If you have the home version, and still not able
to access, check the physical connections first.
You should connect directly to adapter using
Ethernet cable. Check that IP address of
your computer has been changed as instructed in
user manual. Also, make sure you have correct IP
address of AV200 adapter.
What is the maximum
distance between adapters over coaxial cable?
The recommended maximum
range for AV200 CableLAN networks is 1200
meters, or more than half a mile. Actual
distance will vary based on the noise in the
operating environment.
Is it possible to use a
CableLAN device if there is a DOCSIS cable modem
also present ?
Yes,
it's possible to use AV200 CableLAN on systems
with DOCSIS installed. The only thing that is
necessary is to install a filter after the coax
entry point leading to the branches of coax
which are not connected to the DOCSIS modem. Any
filter that effectively attenuates frequencies
in the range 4-21 MHz would suffice with AHP-50
filter from ARCOM Labs
Do I need to install new
Coaxial cable if I am using current cable for
TV?
AV200 signal works in a different frequency than
the TV signals. Therefore, it can use the same
coaxial cables for communication and can
co-exist with cable TV. AV200 recommends Signal
Terminator to filter AV200 signal from the TV
signal.
Can I set up my own network?
Yes, you can use the
manuals of our products and basically do it
yourself. The installation takes only few
minutes.
What is the maximum number of AV200
adapters I can have on a network?
AV200 networks are limited
to 32 adapters. Keep in mind also, that the
adapters are all sharing the same electrical
wires. 32 adapters all sending data at the same
time will be much slower that traffic between
just 3 or 4 adapters.
Does adding more devices
decrease my network speed?
Adding more devices will
not have effect on the connectivity between
present devices. Having more devices will cause
more traffic on the network, and that might
affect network speed as in all communication
devices.
How
do I set up a basic network?
It is simple - connect your AV200 adapter to
your computer with the included Ethernet cable
and then plug it into an electric outlet.
Connect another AV200 adapter to anything else
you want on the network - a DSL modem, another
computer, a game console - and plug it into an
electric outlet. The adapters will automatically
begin communicating with each other.
What
happens if I forget the IP address of a device?
If you do not change the
default IP address of the device, you should be
able to access it by going to the default IP
address. If you have forgotten the default IP
address, you can still connect to it using the
AV200 Config Utility application. You can then
reset the adapter to the default IP address or
note down the IP address for future use. Please
note that this applies only to Home version
devices
How can I connect my devices to my
Powerline network?
After setting up your network (see previous
question), you can add more devices in the same
way. Just connect another AV200 adapter to your
device with the included Ethernet cable, and
plug it in to an outlet. The adapter will
automatically communicate with any other AV200
Adapters that are plugged in, anywhere in your
home.
How
do I get on the internet?
Firstly, you will need
broadband service from your local internet
service provider. After you've connected your
computer, connect a AV200 adapter to your
broadband modem with the included Ethernet cable
and plug it in power outlet. The AV200 adapters
will automatically establish communications and
your internet service will become available
through the network. This is what we mean when
we say, 'Internet in Every Outlet".
What is a Wireless Device?
Wireless devices send
signal via air to another wireless medium and
don’t need to be connected through cables with
each other for data transfer.
What is a Network?
It is a group of two or
more computers interconnected in order to share
any kind of data (computer files, audio, video,
etc
What
is Broadband?
Broadband means that data
can be transferred at high speeds. This term is
mostly used when talking about high-speed
internet connection (DSL, cable TV Internet
access).
