What is Powerline Technology?

Powerline technology is a technology of data transfer   through power outlets, i.e. through electricity. The same wires that are able to transmit electricity are also able to transmit data.

Is Powerline Network Secure?

Poweline uses a 168-bit 3DES encryption, which makes sure that your network and your data are highly secure and are not intercepted by unwanted intruders.

How can I benefit from Powerline technology? 

If you have more than one computer at your home or office, using the Powerline technology you can create your own network to share internet, data or video without pulling new wires. 

How can I transmit HD/SD video signal with Powerline adapters?

Simply connect the devices you want networked to your Powerline adapters with the included Ethernet cable, plug them in, and they're communicating. Now all that's left to do is set your devices to send or receive, according to the instructions provided by the manufacturers of those devices. For example to send video form a Media Center to a television, connect the PC to a Powerline adapter with the included Ethernet cable and plug it in. Connect another adapter to the Ethernet port on your set top box or other device connected to your TV. Now use the software included on your Media Center PC to send your video stream, and set your set top box and television to receive the signal. For digital video recorders such as TiVo, do the same as above but set one TiVo to send and set the others to receive. AV200 Powerline Adapters automatically establish communications between devices with an Ethernet port. For detailed instructions on sending and receiving video or other data, please consult the manuals included with the devices you are using. 

Can I Combine Wireless Device with Powerline Device? 

Yes, you can. You can have a wireless device sending signal to your computer and have your computer connected to the network of other computers through a Powerline adapter.

Can not I plug my AV200 Powerline Adapter into a power strip?

Not recommended - Power strips contain surge protectors which often severely restrict the frequencies used by Powerline communications and thus, the performance of AV200 Powerline adapters

What software do I need for Powerline ?

None! When AV200 Powerline Adapters are plugged in, they automatically begin communicating with each other within minutes. All you need is a short Ethernet cable connecting your computer or device to the adapter.

How big is an AV200 Powerline Adapter or wall mount?

It can easily fit into your palm or two hands. Exact dimensions can be found in the product datasheet.

What types of AV200 adapters are available?

AV200 comes in two shapes – Desktop and Wall Mount. AV200 can communicate over Powerline or Coaxial cable. The two products are respectively AV200 Powerline and AV200 Cable/LAN. For in-home applications, AV200 has in-home versions of AV200. For commercial applications, Enterprise AV200 adapters are recommended.

What are the lights on the AV200 adapter?

On the Desktop version, from left to right, the lights are Power, PLC connection and Ethernet connection. The order of lights is same on the Wall Mount version as well, but from top to bottom.

What kind of warranty protection comes with AV200 products?

Standard one and two year manufacturer’s warranty (based on the user location) which warrants the product against defect in material and workmanship.

Is it safe to put a network on my electrical wires? Will it overload my circuits?

All AV200 products undergo rigorous testing for FCC certification in the United States and by the responsible bodies in all other countries where our products are sold. AV200 Powerline networks simply utilize unused frequencies on your electric lines -There will not be any additional load on your wires.

How secure is my network? Can my neighbors see my data?

AV200 products are pre-set at the factory with today's leading security features already turned on. Your nosy neighbors will have better luck listening at the wall with a glass to their ear.

Are AV200 products compatible with Mac OS X? Linux?

Yes. AV200 products are fully compatible with any computer or device with an Ethernet port

Do AV200 products support HD video?

Yes. In fact, AV200 products are perfect for HD video transmission. It's not just the high-speed breakthrough, providing plenty of bandwidth for your HD signal. We built in Quality of Service settings, which give priority to your video signal when there's any kind of slowdown on the network. So your pictures stay crisp and clear, no matter what - just as you'd expect from TV

Can I use my AV200 products in a commercial or business environment?

Yes, you certainly can. Depending upon the needs of your business, you can choose either the In-home or the Enterprise version of the products.

Can I send my TV signals over Powerline or Coax?

If you have satellite, digital cable or any other digital television service, you can add it to your network by connecting your set up box to a AV200 adapter with the included Ethernet cable, and then plug it in. The only requirement is an Ethernet port. AV200 Powerline Adapters automatically establish communications between any devices with an Ethernet port. For detailed instructions on sending and receiving video or other data, please consult manuals included with the devices you are using.

How can you tell status of device looking at the lights?

Please refer to user manual of your particular device. It describes in detail the implication of the lights.

How do I configure the devices?

You can login to the device using any web browser. Follow the user manual on directions to login and to configure the adapters.

How can I update firmware on AV200 products?

AV200 is working on providing access to firmware files to all users. Currently, it is only available to selected commercial clients.

Why can I not access the device web interface?

The web interface is only supported by the home version of AV200 products. If you have the home version, and still not able to access, check the physical connections first. You should connect directly to adapter using Ethernet cable.  Check that IP address of your computer has been changed as instructed in user manual. Also, make sure you have correct IP address of AV200 adapter.

What is the maximum distance between adapters over coaxial cable?

The recommended maximum range for AV200 CableLAN networks is 1200 meters, or more than half a mile. Actual distance will vary based on the noise in the operating environment.

Is it possible to use a CableLAN device if there is a DOCSIS cable modem also present ?

Yes, it's possible to use AV200 CableLAN on systems with DOCSIS installed. The only thing that is necessary is to install a filter after the coax entry point leading to the branches of coax which are not connected to the DOCSIS modem. Any filter that effectively attenuates frequencies in the range 4-21 MHz would suffice with AHP-50 filter from ARCOM Labs

Do I need to install new Coaxial cable if I am using current cable for TV?

AV200 signal works in a different frequency than the TV signals. Therefore, it can use the same coaxial cables for communication and can co-exist with cable TV. AV200 recommends Signal Terminator to filter AV200 signal from the TV signal.

Can I set up my own network?

Yes, you can use the manuals of our products and basically do it yourself. The installation takes only few minutes.

What is the maximum number of AV200 adapters I can have on a network?

AV200 networks are limited to 32 adapters. Keep in mind also, that the adapters are all sharing the same electrical wires. 32 adapters all sending data at the same time will be much slower that traffic between just 3 or 4 adapters.

Does adding more devices decrease my network speed?

Adding more devices will not have effect on the connectivity between present devices. Having more devices will cause more traffic on the network, and that might affect network speed as in all communication devices.

How do I set up a basic network?

It is simple - connect your AV200 adapter to your computer with the included Ethernet cable and then plug it into an electric outlet. Connect another AV200 adapter to anything else you want on the network - a DSL modem, another computer, a game console - and plug it into an electric outlet. The adapters will automatically begin communicating with each other.

What happens if I forget the IP address of a device?

If you do not change the default IP address of the device, you should be able to access it by going to the default IP address. If you have forgotten the default IP address, you can still connect to it using the AV200 Config Utility application. You can then reset the adapter to the default IP address or note down the IP address for future use. Please note that this applies only to Home version devices

How can I connect my devices to my Powerline network?

After setting up your network (see previous question), you can add more devices in the same way. Just connect another AV200 adapter to your device with the included Ethernet cable, and plug it in to an outlet. The adapter will automatically communicate with any other AV200 Adapters that are plugged in, anywhere in your home. 

How do I get on the internet?

Firstly, you will need broadband service from your local internet service provider. After you've connected your computer, connect a AV200 adapter to your broadband modem with the included Ethernet cable and plug it in power outlet. The AV200 adapters will automatically establish communications and your internet service will become available through the network. This is what we mean when we say, 'Internet in Every Outlet". 

What is a Wireless Device?

Wireless devices send signal via air to another wireless medium and don’t need to be connected through cables with each other for data transfer.

What is a Network?

It is a group of two or more computers interconnected in order to share any kind of data (computer files, audio, video, etc

What is Broadband?

Broadband means that data can be transferred at high speeds. This term is mostly used when talking about high-speed internet connection (DSL, cable TV Internet access).
